Outreach

Science should be accessible to all, and as a researcher, I am committed to developing and implementing effective scientific outreach for the public. My outreach efforts have included leading the PSU Anthropology Outreach Committee, creating digital resources for youth during the COVID-19 pandemic, conceptualizing and organizing an anthropology festival, and engaging directly with the public at various research festivals and talks.

Feel free to reach out if you'd like to collaborate on future science outreach projects!

Frontiers for Young Minds

This easy-to-read scientific paper is designed to introduce youth to the oral microbiome from an evolutionary perspective. Check out our publication, "The Milions of Microbial Reasons You Need to Brush Your Teeth".

Penn State Anthropology Festival

As the outreach coordinator for the PSU Anthropology department, I organized the 2023 and 2024 Penn State Anthropology Festivals. These events were open to the public, attracting hundreds of attendees, and featured a wide range of family-friendly activities.

Stories Under the Sky

Along with Kyle Smith, I co-ran an event series called Stories Under the Sky at the PSU Arboretum. We told myths and folktales about the stars, Sun, Moon, and sky from cultures all around the world. We also taught how people have used the sky for navigation, timekeeping, and understanding the cosmos. Following the stories, we gave a guided tour of the sky, including pointing out constellations and letting attendees look through a telescope. Events took place at the Penn State Arboretum (funded by the Tygel Endowment), the Lemont Village Green, the Davey Lab Planetarium, and AstroFest.
